		Transfer price fixing, or transfer pricing, refers to the internal price charged for commodity, labor and technology transactions between parent and subsidiary, or between subsidiary and subsidiary, within a multinational company. It is driven by the global strategy of the parent and is designed for the maximum benefit of the multinational. For instance, a foreign invested company purchases materials from its overseas parent company and then processes the materials in China into end product to sell back to the parent company. The prices arising from this process are transfer prices. In practice, through “higher import/lower export”, “lower import/higher export” and even “subjective deductions,” multinationals, and their foreign invested subsidiaries, can achieve the goal of strategic total adjustment by way of adjusting profit, reducing tax liability, taking advantage of preferences, perfecting asset allocation, and reducing and avoiding various kinds of risk.
