Private equity investment (also known as private share investment or private fund investment) refers to any equity asset investment other than those traded freely in share markets. Passive institutional investors may invest in a private equity fund which then transfers the investment to a private equity investment company for management prior its investment in the target company. Private equity investment can be divided into the following categories: leveraged acquisition, venture investment, capital growth, angel investment, mezzanine financing and others. The private equity investment fund generally controls the management of the invested company and often enhances the company’s value by putting in place a new management team.
